Women's Soccer: Froome Nets Winner from Long Range as Mac Downs Windsor 2-1

McMaster snapped a six-game winless streak with Sunday's result

Turning the lion's share of possession, and a boatload of shots, into two goals Sunday, the Marauders crafted a much-needed victory at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Amy Froome's 59th-minute strike proved to be the game winner, as the Marauders got the better of the Windsor Lancers 2-1.

Hannah Chau-Stacey also found the back of the net for McMaster, who improved to 3-3-3 on the season with the result.

Jamie O'Neil scored the lone goal for the visitors, while Kristina Brooks made 13 saves in a losing effort.

Dominating possession and generating plenty of scoring chances, the Marauders took 14 shots and found the target with eight of them in the opening half, versus just one lone shot from the Lancers.

The majority of those chances went begging, but McMaster was spared a goalless haul from the first 45 minutes when Chau-Stacey connected from close range in the 32nd minute, to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead they carried into the break.

McMaster continued to get the best of play in the second, and was rewarded for it in the 59th minute, when Froome blasted an effort from range that sailed past the Windsor keeper and just inside the post for 2-0.

Making it interesting with 20 minutes to play, O'Neil found an opening and the visitors first goal to cut the deficit in half.

But the run of play continued to favour the hosts, and there was little danger of splitting the points down the stretch.

NEXT UP: The Marauders head to North York on Friday, September 28 to take on the York Lions, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
