Women's Soccer: Marauders and Badgers Battle to 2-2 Draw

Lindsay Bosveld's 82nd-minute equalizer earned McMaster a point

Hurt on the counter Friday, the Marauders were forced to fight for a single point despite controlling the contest against the Badgers for long stretches.

Lindsay Bosveld scored the tying goal in the 82nd minute, as McMaster drew Brock 2-2 at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The Badgers twice took the lead Friday only to see the Marauders peg them back in due time. McMaster, meanwhile, never led the game despite outshooting Brock 9-5 on the night.

Sydney Sica and Laura Kirk had goals for the visitors, while Stephanie Roberts and Bosveld countered for the home side.

With the result, the Marauders stand at 2-2-3 through seven matches, while the Badgers are 2-2-2 through six.

McMaster started brightly on Friday, threatening the Brock goal on several occasions, but were unable to fashion a goal in the opening half.

Instead, it was the Badgers who found the game's first opening, when Sica launched an incisive run through the Marauders defence that ended with a scuffed shot past the goalkeeper and an injury that cut her evening short in the 32nd minute.

Trailing at the break, the Marauders emerged with similar energy in the second half, and Bosveld nearly levelled when a chipped shot found the crossbar just a minute into play.

The break came for the hosts in the 58th, when Bosveld was clipped in the head while in the box, and the referee called for the spot kick. Roberts duly stepped up and delivered, and struck her shot off the woodwork and in for 1-1.

Catching the Marauders flat along the flank, Kirk restored the Badgers lead just 10 minutes later, as she came free and launched a looping shot just inside the far post for 2-1.

McMaster was increasingly desperate for an equalizer, and they found it just eight minutes from time, as Jivan Yacou played on Bosveld inside the box, and she rounded the keeper and chipped in for 2-2.

NEXT UP: The Marauders return to action in a week's time, as they play host to the Western Mustangs on Friday, September 21. That match is due to kick off at 6:00 p.m.
