Women's Basketball: #3 Marauders Stifle #6 Ravens Early to Notch 64-52 Win on the Road

McMaster held Carleton to just 14 points in the first half in Ottawa

Brushing aside the disappointment of Friday, the Marauders rode a first half defensive lockdown to victory a day later, getting revenge in a rematch of the 2018 Critelli Cup final.

U SPORTS #3-ranked McMaster held #6 Carleton to just 14 points in the first half, en route to a convincing 64-52 win in Ottawa.

The result was McMaster's first win over fellow nationally-ranked OUA teams this season, and improved the team to 7-2 in conference play.

Well-rounded contributions from their veteran starters on offence helped the Marauders to the important win, as the trio of Linnaea Harper, Hilary Hanaka and Olivia Wilson poured in a combined 43 points.

Ultra-efficient from the floor, Wilson hit six of eight attempts and finished the night with 13 points, adding 12 rebounds for her first double double of the campaign.

Hanaka and Harper posted matching totals of 15 points, with the latter hitting two of the Marauders five three-pointers.

Effectively putting the game beyond reach through 20 minutes, McMaster raced out to a 12-6 lead after a quarter and only accelerated from there, carrying a 13-point lead into the halftime break at 27-14.

The hosts picked up the pace in the back half, effectively playing the Marauders to a dead heat in the third and four quarters, but the damage was already done.

NEXT UP: McMaster returns home to Burridge Gym to conclude the 2018 calendar with games against York and Queen's on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 respectively. Both are set to tip off at 6:00 p.m.
