Women's Volleyball: #6 Warriors Sink Marauders from the Service Line

Waterloo had 15 aces in the three-set sweep

Giving the home crowd an early sign of promise, the Marauders led by as many as six points in the first set before being chased down by the Waterloo Warriors Friday.

McMaster out-hit its visitors but was undone largely from the service line, where Waterloo notched 15 aces in a 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 win at Burridge Gym.

The result improved the U SPORTS sixth-ranked Warriors to 6-0 on the young season, while the Marauders fell to 3-3.

Losing despite earning 50 points to Waterloo's 49 and hitting for a .282 average versus the Warriors .196 as a group, the Marauders committed 11 service errors versus seven aces while the Warriors had 15 aces against eight errors.

Right side Jessie Nairn was McMaster's leading scorer in a losing effort, killing 10 of 23 attempts with just two errors (.348) while adding two aces and four solo blocks for 16 points.

NEXT UP: The Marauders retake the Burridge Gym court Saturday night as they battle the Guelph Gryphons. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
