Men's Volleyball: Warriors Wilt Under Marauders Pressure in Straight Sets

McMaster thumped down 10 aces and held Waterloo to .115 hitting Friday

Trapping the Waterloo Warriors in a cycle of intense service pressure and offensive bombardment, the Marauders notched another comfortable win at Burridge Gym Friday.

McMaster swept Waterloo 25-15, 25-10, 25-21 to move to 5-1 in OUA play, and extend a streak of nine consecutive sets won since its home opening loss on November 9.

Rookie middle Tyler Pavelic enjoyed his best performance to date, with 12 points including four kills, five aces and three solo blocks, while fellow middle Bennett Swan also excelled in an error-free performance that included four kills and seven points.

Posting matching totals of 13.5 points, the duo of left side Andrew Richards and right side Nathan Delguidice hit .421 and .409 respectively in the win.

Delguidice led all players with 13 kills on 22 attempts versus four errors, while Richards had 11 kills and two errors on 19 attempts, while adding two aces.

In a clear demonstration of wildly-different passing success Friday, the Marauders had 10 aces while not conceding a single ace against, and hit .388 versus the Warriors team total of .115.

The second set alone saw the home side hit .800 and kill 12 of 15 attacks as a group without a single hitting error.

NEXT UP: McMaster will look to sweep the final homestand of the 2018 calendar with a return to Burridge Gym Saturday night, where the Marauders battle the Guelph Gryphons at 8:00 p.m.
