Men's Volleyball: Mac Rolls to Fourth Straight Sweep at Guelph's Expense

Connor Santoni had a career night with nine kills and 11 points

For a second consecutive night at Burridge Gym, their opponents were helpless to slow the Marauders as they raced to victory in straight sets.

Offering little resistance as #6 McMaster reeled off its fourth consecutive sweep, Guelph was swept 25-19, 25-11, 25-13 as the Marauders men presented a stark contrast to the thrilling five-set women's clash that preceded their match.

The result improved the Marauders to 6-1 on the season, moving them ahead of the Windsor Lancers for first place in the OUA West on the basis of winning percentage. McMaster has two matches in hand against Windsor (7-2), and dealt the Lancers one of those losses earlier in November.

Senior outside hitter Connor Santoni enjoyed a career night in the victory, serving as co-leader with nine kills on 17 attempts versus just a single error (.471), while adding an ace and a solo block for 11 points.

Right side Nathan Delguidice also knocked down nine kills, hitting .278 and chipping in an ace and two solo blocks for a match high of 12 points.

Heating up as they moved along, the Marauders saw their team hitting percentage rise with each successive set, as they committed just five hitting errors in the final two frames and hit .318 and .350 as a group in the second and third respectively.

Completely stymied offensively while managing a team hitting average of just .071 in a losing effort, the Gryphons heaped damage upon themselves with 14 service errors and no aces.

NEXT UP: McMaster completes the 2018 calendar with a trip to London, where the Marauders will battle the Western Mustangs on Friday, November 30. That match is slated for first serve at 8:00 p.m.
