Women's Basketball: Buttenham Leads Marauders to Bounce Back in 67-47 Win over Blues

McMaster held Toronto to just 27.3 per cent from the floor Saturday

Looking to rebound from their first defeat of the season, the Marauders displayed their quality down the stretch to blow past the Toronto Varsity Blues 67-47 Saturday at Burridge Gym.

The fourth quarter saw the Marauders race away from their opponents, as they allowed just 11 points while scoring 21 of their own and doubled the advantage they carried into the final 10 minutes.

Forward Christina Buttenham led all scorers with 15 points on the night, hitting six of 11 shots from the field and one of two from three-point range.

Linnaea Harper joined her in double digits on the night with 13 points, while Mia Spadafora was a perfect four for four off the bench, finishing with nine points and seven rebounds.

McMaster never trailed on Saturday, opening the game on a 6-0 run and ultimately outscoring Toronto 18-8 in the first quarter to give the visitors a steep hill to climb.

To their credit, the Blues battled the Marauders to a dead heat in the second and third quarters, and were within 10 points when the fourth began.

But their forgettable night from the floor, which saw the Blues shoot just 27.3 per cent, caught up with them, as the Marauders posted their most prolific quarter in the final 10 minutes to seal the emphatic result.

NEXT UP: McMaster heads to Ottawa for a pivotal two-game road trip on November 23 and 24, where the Marauders will battle the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the defending Critelli Cup champions, the Carleton Ravens. Both games tip off at 6:00 p.m. and can be seen live on OUA.tv.
