Men's Basketball: Gilmore Drops 28 in OUA Return, Marauders Beat Warriors 93-75

Tristan Lindo scored 12 in his Marauders debut Wednesday

After a season spent watching eagerly from the sidelines, Connor Gilmore made the most of his return to the OUA Wednesday.

The fourth-year Marauder poured in 28 points and pulled down 12 boards to open the conference season with a double-double and lead McMaster to a convincing 93-75 win over Waterloo at the Burridge Gym.

Gilmore was making his first OUA start since February 2017, after spending a year away from the game a season ago.

He led a red-hot McMaster offence that shot 43 per cent from the floor and 28 per cent from three-point range on Wednesday, with fellow starters David McCulloch and Tristan Lindo also reaching double digits with 17 and 12 points respectively.

Lindo impressed in his McMaster debut, adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 26 minutes on court.

McMaster grabbed the lead with the game's first bucket and never looked back, building its advantage slowly by outscoring Waterloo in each successive quarter.

Leading 47-39 at the halftime break, the Marauders kept focus and dropped 25 points on the Warriors in the third to expand the cushion to 14 points, and effectively maintained their distance from there despite giving ample minutes to the reserves down the stretch.

NEXT UP: McMaster continues the season-opening home stand Saturday, when the Windsor Lancers visit for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff at the Burridge Gym.
