Men's Basketball: McCulloch and Gilmore Star as Marauders Blow Out Lancers 95-67

McMaster rolled to a second straight lopsided win to open the OUA season

Two games into the regular season, the Marauders are making things look easy in blowing past a pair of divisional opponents.

Three days after beating the Waterloo Warriors by 18 on home court, McMaster returned to the Burridge Gym floor Saturday and demolished Windsor by 28, taking a 95-67 victory to move to 2-0 on the young season.

The veteran duo of guard David McCulloch and forward Connor Gilmore carried much of the offensive load on Saturday, scoring 25 and 24 points respectively to lead their team and the game as a whole.

McCulloch made good on eight of 13 attempts from the field and five of eight from beyond the arc, draining all four of his foul shots for good measure.

For his part, Gilmore went 7-12 from the field and 4-7 from three, while adding seven rebounds.

Early struggles saw McMaster sputter in the first quarter and hit just three of 15 shots as a group, as the teams were locked at 13 after 10 minutes.

But the Marauders came alive in the second quarter to blow the game wide open, scoring a whopping 36 points as a group with McCulloch knocking down 16 of his 25 on the afternoon in the period.

McMaster shot 71 per cent from the floor in the second, while McCulloch was five of six himself, as the Marauders built a dominant 49-27 lead at the halftime break, which they would not relinquish.

Outscored slightly in a third-quarter downturn, the Marauders responded in the fourth with 27 points even while the team's reserves enjoyed most of the minutes on offer.

Holding the Lancers to just 17 in the same frame, the hosts easily saw out their second victory of the season.
