Women's Soccer: Roberts Hat Trick Seals OUA Scoring Title as Mac Cruises to 8-0 Win over Algoma

Rookie Megan Mamela also bagged a hat trick in her Marauders debut

Her performance a day earlier put Stephanie Roberts within striking distance of the OUA's scoring leader, and a three-goal day Sunday saw the Marauders veteran striker dramatically claim that title on the final day of the regular season.

Leapfrogging Queen's forward Jenny Wolever's total of 13 goals, Roberts scored her 14th of the year and third of the afternoon in the 82nd minute to take sole possession of top spot in the conference's goal charts, providing the cap on an 8-0 Marauders win over the Algoma Thunderbirds.

Rookie midfielder Megan Mamela also notched a hat trick in the lopsided victory, while making her first appearance as a Marauder. Striker Jade Smith completed the scoring for McMaster with a pair of goals.

Their win Sunday put an end to the Marauders regular season, with McMaster registering an 8-3-5 record that earned it the fourth seed in the OUA West division and a home playoff date on Wednesday, October 24.

The Marauders will play host to the fifth-seeded Brock Badgers at Ron Joyce Stadium for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.

Sunday's performance completed a dominant weekend for the Marauders, who out-scored the Thunderbirds 11-0 over the course of two matches in Sault Ste. Marie. McMaster enters the playoffs unbeaten in eight matches and a full calendar month.
