Men's Soccer: Marauders Blast Three Past Warriors on Alumni Day

McMaster kept control of third in the OUA West with the win

McMaster gave its alumni something to cheer Saturday, with a comfortable 3-0 victory on home turf in its final home game of the regular season.

Scoring early, and backing up the breakthrough with a pair in the second half, the Marauders produced a dominant display for their seventh win of 2018.

Dusan Kovacevic, Jason Walkowski and Yunus Mollayev scored for McMaster, which improved to 7-3-4 on the season and solidified its hold on third place in the OUA West division with 25 points.

Picking up his fourth clean sheet of the season, and second in as many weeks, goalkeeper Tristan Joyce stopped all three of the shots he faced Saturday.

The home side wasted little time in opening the scoring at Ron Joyce Stadium, as Kovacevic was sent in on goal and found an acute angle to blow a rising shot past the Waterloo keeper at the near post and give McMaster the lead.

Comfortably holding their one-goal advantage through the halftime break, the Marauders doubled it just six minutes into the second half, as the defender Walkowski rose to meet a cross from the corner and nodded home for his second goal of 2018 and 2-0.

The icing on Saturday's particular cake came in the 88th minute, when Mollayev ran at the Waterloo defence along the left wing and drove an audacious shot inside the near post for 3-0.

NEXT UP: McMaster concludes the regular season with a trip to Sault Ste. Marie, where the Marauders will battle the Algoma Thunderbirds in a pair of 3:00 p.m. contests on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21.
