Women's Volleyball: Marauders Keep Bid For Top Spot Alive, Beat Warriors in Four

Mac moved to 13-3, two points off the pace in the OUA West with Friday's win.

Box Score Keeping the heat on the Western Mustangs atop the OUA West, the no. 8-ranked Marauders defeated the Waterloo Warriors in four sets to move to 13-3, and remain two points off the divisional pace Friday.

Rebecca Steckle and Aleks Arsovic led the Marauders with 12 points each. McMaster combined to hit .273 on the night, with Caitlin Genovy racking up 39 assists to help Mac past the Warriors.

Claire Mackenzie scored 12 points of her own to keep things close for the Warriors, but their 14 errors proved costly against McMaster.

In their first of two matches on the road this weekend, the Marauders got the early edge over the Warriors as the first three sets were evenly matches between the two squads. Waterloo forced a fourth set after defeating the Marauders in the third 25-22.

The Marauders put their foot down in the fourth, however, as they went on to defeat the Warriors 25-12. Meanwhile, Waterloo dropped their third straight match and sits even at .500.

The Warriors have three matches remaining, including one against the OUA East-leading Toronto Varsity Blues as they currently sit in fourth place in the OUA West.

McMaster has three matches to play in the OUA regular season, with two of those being at home in the Burridge Gym.

The Marauders will be back in action Saturday, February 18, when they head to St. Catharines to face the 4-12 Brock Badgers. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Bob Davis Gymnasium.
