Women's Volleyball: Marauders Bounce Back to Sweep Warriors

The duo of Joanna Jedrzejewska and Maicee Sorensen combined for 25.5 points in the win.

The search for their best continues, but on the second match day of 2017, the Marauders were rewarded for improvement.

McMaster bounced back from an opening-night defeat a week earlier to defeat the Waterloo Warriors in straight sets Saturday (25-15, 27-25, 25-19), even while their offence remained a work in progress.

Fifth-year left side Joanna Jedrzejewska was the match's leading scorer, posting 10 kills from 32 attempts and adding two aces and a block for 13 points.

Displaying her usual composure, middle Maicee Sorensen was easily the most efficient attacker on the night, putting 10 of 17 hitting attempts to the floor, versus just one error (53 per cent) while adding two solo blocks.

With her team hitting for a negative percentage as a group, middle Samantha Warner was Waterloo's leading scorer and did most of her damage defensively, with a total of three and a half blocks and a team high of seven and a half points.

McMaster kept a damper on Waterloo's offence all night, inducing two sets of negative hitting from the visitors, including a final set in which the Warriors notched just three kills versus 13 errors.

But Mac's own attack struggled, with only the duo of Jedrzejewska and Sorensen providing reliable offence, and the team as a whole hitting just nine per cent in the win.

NEXT UP: McMaster travels to Guelph on Saturday, Nov. 4 to battle the Gryphons. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
