Women's Volleyball: Jedrzejewska Sets the Pace as Mac Blazes Past Windsor in Straight Sets

Marauders move to 10-2 to begin three-match road swing

Box Score They say time heals all wounds, but for the Windsor Lancers, more time may be needed. It was just last Sunday when the Lancers lost 3-1 to the Marauders at the Burridge Gym.

Fast forward to Saturday, and Mac did nothing but improve on their performance from less than a week prior, as they went on to sweep the Lancers in three sets.

The Marauders started a three-match road swing with a win to improve to 10-2. McMaster remains second in the OUA's West Division behind Western, who had a sweep of their own against the Brock Badgers to improve to 11-1. The Marauders handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season last Saturday.

Joanna Jedrzejewska scored 17 points for the Marauders in their victory in Windsor. The fourth-year veteran has scored double digits in 10 of the 11 matches she's played in this season, as she continues to show the level of performance that made her an OUA First Team All-Star in 2015-16.

While Jedrzejewska was dominating on the attack, it was another fourth-year vet in Carly Heath who would come up big on the defensive end for the Marauders. Heath tallied 23 digs against Windsor, and played well in the pressure moments of the second set, where Mac faced an uphill battle.

Windsor's Rachel Cauchi had her second double-digit match of the season, as she scored 11 against the McMaster. The Lancers put forth a strong defensive effort, with three players tallying 12 or more digs, and libero Carleigh Bailey notching a team high of 20.

The first two sets had a bit of everything for those in attendance, as the first set saw the Marauders get out to an early and dominating lead. However, Windsor would turn things around to make a late set surge, and force the set into bonus points. McMaster eventually proved the steadier side, taking the opening set 26-24.

The second showcased the determination of the Mac women, as they would find themselves facing a similar deficit that the Lancers were facing in the opening set. Coming out of the technical timeout trailing 16-10, the Marauders gradually dug out of the hole, as they soared past Windsor to win 15 of the next 20 points and claim the set by a four-point margin.

Completing the sweep convincingly, the Marauders capped their afternoon with a 25-13 set win in the third.

Mac will be back in action next Saturday, as they head into Toronto to take on the East Division-leading Varsity Blues, who are currently the last remaining undefeated team in the OUA. Start time for the match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
