Box Score On the heels of their most impressive win of the season, the Marauders were composed in a return to action against the Windsor Lancers Sunday.
Mac notched their second win in as many days, downing the Lancers in four sets (25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21) to retain their perfect record at the Burridge Gym.
The win moved the Marauders to 9-2 on the season, firmly in control of the second spot in the OUA West standings. Windsor, meanwhile, fell to 3-7 with the loss.
Pacing Mac on Sunday, middle Maicee Sorensen had a team and match high of 16.5 points, killing 11 of 24 hitting attempts and adding five aces and one block assist. Outside Joanna Jedrzejewska followed close behind with 15 points on 11 of 31 hitting and four aces.
The pair of Lexi Pollard and Melissa Smyth led the Lancers with matching totals of 11 points.
Closely contested at its outset, the first set opened up ahead of the technical timeout, where McMaster took a five-point lead at 16-11 after a combo block from Rebecca Steckle and Maicee Sorensen. A service run from Sorensen helped the hosts pull away late, and Jedrzejewska polished off the dominant opener with a well-placed kill to the back line for 25-14.
Momentum stayed firmly in McMaster's corner in the second set, and the hosts led by seven at the technical timeout. Playing roughly side-out volleyball to the finish, the Marauders ended the set when Alicia Jack stuffed the Lancers attempt on their second touch for 25-16.
Windsor showed some resilience in the third, where the visitors played neck-and-neck into the technical timeout. Leading by two at the break, the Lancers edged forward 16-14 after a double block from the combination of Kirsten Aasen and Melissa Smyth. The visitors kept their wits about them at the finish line, sealing the set when Melissa Smyth punished a Marauder overpass for 25-21.
Re-establishing the status quo to open the fourth, Mac held a comfortable five-point lead at the technical timeout and looked fully in command.
But Windsor had one last surge in them, and closed within a point at 22-21, bringing about a McMaster timeout, after a clean kill to the back line.
Mac emerged strongly from the break, and won each of the next three points to cap the match, with Sorensen dusting off an overpass on match point.
Having concluded their Marauder Weekend homestand, McMaster heads out on the road on Saturday, January 28 for a rematch against the Lancers in Windsor.
