Box Score The McMaster men's basketball team couldn't hold on against the York Lions on Friday falling 71-68 after a last second three-pointer locked up the victory for the visitors..
Â
It was a back and forth first quarter as Mac held a slim 13-12 lead after one, in a strong defensive effort by both teams.
The second quarter saw both teams play some physical basketball and McMaster
Coach Amos Connolly was ejected with just under two minutes to go in the half after being assessed back-to-back technical fouls. A final push by York at the end of the quarter sent McMaster into the intermission trailing 35-30.
Â
In the third quarter McMaster began to find some offense. The Marauders scored 21 points in the quarter and cut the York lead to just two heading into the final quarter.
Â
To start the fourth, Mac quickly regained the advantage, and the teams began to exchange baskets. With three minutes left in the game, a York bucket managed to tie the game up at 60 apiece.
Â
Anytime Mac made a run, York was able to counter as they went back in forth going into the final minute. After York took a 68-66 lead with 45 seconds left, Marauder Elliot Ormond knocked down two clutch free throws with 20 seconds left.
Â
York called a timeout to advance the ball and set-up for the last shot of the game. York's Julio Vasquez nailed a controversial three-pointer as it looked like the shooter left his feet and came down before shooting. With 1.2-seconds remaining in the game, McMaster tried to get one last shot off but it didn't go as they lost the heartbreaker by three points.
Â
Connor Gilmore finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds in an impressive outing for Mac. Rohan Boney scored 13 with eight rebounds and two blocks in a well-rounded game.
Â
McMaster will now host Queen's University on Saturday at 8-pm in the Burridge Gym.

The game can be streamed online at oua.tv and is on radio at CFMU 93.3FM.
