MARAUDER BASKETBALL: CLASH WITH BROCK MOVES TO BIG STAGE

BROCK UPS THE ANTE WITH ATHLETIC DIRECTORS' WAGER

There is always a little friction whenever McMaster and Brock clash in basketball, as the rivalry between the two schools has existed for decades.

In 2016 the Badgers decided that their campus facility wasn't big enough to contain the visit by the Marauders, so the game on Wednesday, February 24th has been moved to the 3,500 seat Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines.

The men's game sees a match-up of teams that are tied for the lead in the OUA Central Division with identical  12 and 5 records, with Brock holding the tie-breaker by virtue of an 83-75 win  over McMaster in the season opener on November 4th.

The Badgers also currently lead the Marauders in the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the last first-round bye in the OUA playoffs, so there is a lot at stake on Wednesday night as the winning team will likely move into the top four for post-season seeding.

The Marauder women have clinched first-place in the OUA Central Division with a 13-4 record, and defeated Brock 68-65 to open the OUA schedule.   However, the game is still important for McMaster as the Marauders have to win out to have any chance at securing a first-round playoff bye.  No doubt, the Badgers would like to scuttle the Marauder playoff aspirations with a win.

Some extra spice was added to the rivalry this week, when newly appointed Brock Athletic Director Neil Lumsden raised the stakes by challenging McMaster Athletic Director Glen Grunwald to a friendly wager based on the game results.

If the Badgers score more points than the Marauders in the two games, Grunwald will have to wear a Brock Badgers jersey to work at McMaster Friday. Should the Marauders win the bet, Lumsden will wear a McMaster uniform to work at Brock Friday. If either team sweeps both games, the losing athletic director will have to wear the full uniform — jersey and shorts — to work Friday.
