Women's Soccer: Marauders Eliminated 4-2 on Penalties in Windsor

1-0 extra time lead evaporates in heartbreaking loss

Box Score Entering the playoffs on a hot streak spanning half a season, the Marauders looked primed to give the powers of the OUA headaches in the knockout stage. But heartache was all that the first round had in store for McMaster Wednesday, as the Marauders saw an extra time lead evaporate before losing 4-2 on penalties to the Windsor Lancers.

The result brought a remarkable streak of success to a close, as Mac had won eight of their past nine games in roaring into the postseason. It marked the second consecutive season in which the Lancers defeated the Marauders in the first round of the OUA playoffs.

After the teams failed to find the back of the net in regulation, McMaster's Amy Froome and Windsor's Jazmin Martin each scored in extra time, bringing about penalties at 1-1.

Marauders captain Cassidy Davis was the first to the spot, but was saved, and the Lancers took an immediate lead when Cassie Chretien converted on their first attempt. Another Mac veteran, Taylor Lambert was also denied, giving Windsor a two-goal lead when Giulia Barile made good.

Despite goals from Sarah Fettah and Stephanie Roberts, McMaster was eliminated when Windsor converted their fourth attempt, and put the game beyond reach.
