Women's Volleyball: Jedrzejewska and Brisebois Lead Mac to Season-Opening Sweep of Waterloo

A dominant string of non-conference performances carried into the OUA regular season for McMaster on Friday, as the Marauders cruised to a home-opening sweep of the Waterloo Warriors.

Outside Joanna Jedrzejewska was nigh-unstoppable offensively in the victory, converting 12 of 22 hitting attempts versus just two errors (.455) and adding an ace for 13 points. Teammate Taylor Brisebois matched Jedrzejewska's point total, with eight kills, three aces and two blocks.

Alyson Colpitts paced the Warriors in a losing effort, with eight points on six of 15 hitting, a block and an ace.

Sharp from the first serve on Friday, the Marauders had their visitors under constant pressure from the service line, and notched nine aces as a team as a result. Their crisp play had the Marauders well ahead at the technical timeout in set one, and saw them coast to the finish line while hitting .500.

McMaster cooled somewhat on the offensive side of the ball in the second set, but they continued to stymie Waterloo's own attempts to create points. The Warriors would have only eight kills versus eight errors in the frame, as the Marauders took a commanding two-set lead with a 25-16 win.

The struggles continued for the Warriors in the third, as their hitting percentage dipped below zero as a team and the hosts awoke. With McMaster racing to the finish line, Brisebois killed to bring up match point, and the Warriors ended the match early with an error for 25-11.

Hitting the road on the second day of their OUA journey, the Marauders will look to continue their winning ways in Guelph, where they take on the Gryphons at 6:00 p.m.
