MARAUDERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO NINE WITH FOUR SET VICTORY OVER WATERLOO

The division may already have been in the bag, but the Marauders didn't let the events of Thursday affect them on Saturday. Another impressive performance by Lauren Mastroluisi led the way as McMaster defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 on the road to extend their conference winning streak to nine matches.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-22 in favour of the Marauders, who improved to 14-3 on the season with the victory. Waterloo, meanwhile, fell to 4-13 and crucially fell a game behind Western and Windsor for the final playoff spot in the OUA West.

Continuing her strong recent run of form, Mastroluisi led all scorers with 17 points including 15 kills and two service aces. Middle Alicia Jack was an efficient six of 11 hitting, while adding 4.5 blocks for a total of 10.5 points. Defensively, second-year libero Carly Heath racked up a game high of 23 digs over the course of Saturday's four sets.

McMaster held Waterloo to a negative percentage in the first set, forcing 10 hitting errors versus just eight kills en route to victory by a comfortable eight-point margin. Their offence improved in the second, even while the Warriors nudged into positive figures. It was enough to secure the Marauders another comfortable set, as they took the second by a nine-point margin to stake a commanding 2-0 lead.

Waterloo improved drastically in the third, posting the highest hitting percentage (.308) that either side managed on Saturday. Cleaning up their act, the Warriors outlasted the Marauders in a neck-and-neck set to force a fourth by the minimum two points. There, McMaster reasserted their defence and cooled Waterloo's hitters considerably, reversing the trend of the third and sealing the fourth set and the match 25-22 and 3-1.

Saturday completed McMaster's road schedule, as the Marauders finish the season with a 7-3 record away from the Burridge Gym. They return to their home court to complete the regular season on Friday and Saturday, when they welcome the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins to Hamilton.
