Another week, another convincing win for the Marauder men's rugby team, which moved to 3-0 on the season with a 35-17 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Sunday. After spending three consecutive weeks on the road, McMaster will finally head home in a week's time, and having gained the maximum of 15 points from their travels.

Trusty fly half Jamie Leveridge got the scoring started with an early penalty to put the Marauders ahead 3-0, but the Golden Hawks quickly replied with a try for 5-3. Leveridge was back at it when a sloppy bit of play from Laurier gifted him his second penalty of the half, and the Marauders a 6-5 lead.

A series of pick-and-go plays from the ruck saw the Marauders touch down for their first try of the game, and a successful convert from Leveridge gave them a 13-5 lead. Matt Nicol extended that lead with a try of his own minutes later, as McMaster quickly off-loaded the ball cross-field and found the open space.

That essentially opened the floodgates, as the Marauders raced ahead 25-5 and the frustrated Golden Hawks were reduced to 14 men with a yellow card. Chris Woodhead got his name on the scoresheet when he latched onto the bouncing grubber from Leveridge and touched down for 30-5.

Laurier posted two tries in the second half, but the 25-point cushion was more than enough for McMaster, as the Marauders coasted to the final whistle and the full five-point victory.

The Marauders will finally return home on Saturday, September 20, when they welcome the Toronto Varsity Blues to Back 10 Field. That game is due to kick off at 1:00 p.m.
