MARAUDER BASEBALL EARNS SUNDAY SPLIT AGAINST MUSTANGS

Chris Novachis pitched five innings of two-run ball, and Travis Flint went three-for-four at the plate, as the Marauder baseball team won the first half of a doubleheader 5-2 against the Western Mustangs on September 22.

McMaster (3-8) hit Western pitcher Christian Davies early and often throughout the Sunday matinee, and raced to a 2-0 lead when Davies walked three and allowed two hits in the bottom of the first inning. That lead swelled to four runs in the second, when Flint singled to drive in Cody Nason, and Eric Telford scored on a fielder's choice.

The Mustangs got on the board in the top of the third, when Cam Graham's bases-loaded single to centre field plated two runs and cut the Marauders lead in half. But those were the only runs McMaster's pitchers allowed in the opening game.

Novachis bounced back in the fourth inning by setting down the Mustangs in order, and his team responded by adding a fifth run in the bottom half. After Flint stole second, Mike Campagnolo singled to left field to drive him in for his second RBI of the game.

Keith Woodcock entered the game to begin the sixth, and pitched two scoreless innings in relief to secure the win for Novachis.

McMaster was less fortunate in the second half of the doubleheader, dropping a 6-2 decision in a mistake-filled game that saw the Marauders commit three errors in the field.

The team continues its OUA campaign on Thursday, September 26, when the Marauders welcome the Laurier Golden Hawks (5-3) to Bernie Arbour Stadium for a doubleheader.
