MARAUDER BASEBALL PICKS UP FIRST WIN AGAINST QUEEN'S

Jake Roberts pitched six quality innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, as the Marauder baseball team picked up a 6-4 win in the second half of a doubleheader against the Queen's Gaels on Sunday. The victory was McMaster's first of the OUA season.

The Marauders opened the scoring in the second inning, when third baseman Chris Novachis singled to left field to drive in Jake Chiaravalle from second. Travis Gibson kicked off a productive day at the plate, one that saw him go three-for-three, by following Novachis' base knock with a double to bring the third baseman home and extend McMaster's lead.

Queen's took advantage of an infield error to score in the fourth inning, but McMaster quickly responded with a two-run fifth to extend its lead to 4-1. A Mike Telford double and Mike Campagnolo single each yielded a run in the sixth, as the gap widened to five runs.

Roberts was replaced by Mike Westlake after hitting a batter to open the seventh, and that runner would come around to score as the Gaels put up three runs in the final inning. But their comeback bid was snuffed out when Ryan Abraham grounded out to end the game.

McMaster returns to action at Bernie Arbour Stadium on Tuesday, September 17, when the Marauders play host to the Ryerson Rams (1-7). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
