Box Score It had the intensity of a playoff game but the Ottawa Gee-Gees used a fourth quarter explosion and a huge game from John Berhanemeskel to defeat the McMaster men's basketball team 100-85.
The loss was the second straight for the Marauders and drops their OUA record to 3 and 3.
McMaster held the lead after one quarter 29-23 but behind some sharp-shooting from Berhanemeskel and the Gee-Gees, Ottawa was able to take the lead at intermission by the score of 50-48.
The third quarter saw the teams play pretty even and Ottawa was ahead by three points at 70-67 heading to the final stanza.
The fourth quarter was not kind to the Marauders as several breakdowns in transition defense allowed Ottawa to score some easy baskets. Then Berhanemeskel started to heat up and like the previous night, the Marauders had no answer and Ottawa coasted to the win by scoring 30 points in the quarter to McMaster's 18.
The Marauders did themselves no favours by only making 13 of 25 free throw attempts for the game and committing several costly turnovers at key moments.
Berhanemeskel finished with 38, including 20 in the second half and was Ottawa's player of the game. McMaster was paced by Taylor Black who scored 17 to take player of the game for the Maroon.
McMaster will travel next weekend to face Queen's and York in the wrap up of interlock play with teams from the OUA East Division.
