Box Score McMaster seemed poised to complete the comeback on Friday night, clawing ahead late in the fourth set of Friday's contest. But a victory was not to be for the Marauder women's volleyball team, who succumbed to a final push by the Windsor Lancers to lose 3-1 on the road.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-18, 17-25 and 25-21 in favour of the Lancers (1-2), who picked up their first win of the young season. McMaster, meanwhile, drops to 0-2 with the result.

Rookie outside Sophie Bukovec collected a game-high 26 points in a losing effort, converting 25 of 69 hitting attempts with eight errors (24.6 per cent). Fellow first year Maicee Sorensen followed with 14 points on eight of 20 hitting, four solo blocks and two aces.

Bukovec was a steadying force on offence for the Marauders, particularly through the first two sets as the team struggled to serve and pass consistently. Windsor made the most of McMaster's mistakes to win both sets and grab a commanding lead in the match.

The visitors struck back in the third, however, racing out to an early 4-0 lead and never falling behind in the frame. Rookie outside hitter Joanna Jedrzejewska was inserted into the match and settled the Marauders' passing, as McMaster finished strongly to win the set by an eight-point margin.

The Lancers retook momentum early in the fourth set, however, establishing a 4-0 lead of their own. They continued to enjoy that advantage as the set wore on, extending it to 19-13 before McMaster embarked on an eight-point run to snatch the advantage.

Sorensen took to the service line and could not be moved, as the Marauders powered ahead 21-19. But the home side regained the serve on the next point, and setter Danielle Lenarduzzi produced a six-point run of her own to clinch the set and match for Windsor.

McMaster returns to action on Saturday, when the Marauders travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs (0-2). That game is scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
