MARAUDERS FALL TO GAELS IN HOME OPENER

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's rugby team took on the 2011 OUA silver medallist Queen's Gaels on Wednesday afternoon. In their home opener of the season, the Marauders couldn't pull off the win, and lost by a score of 33-12.

Both teams exchanged possession in the opening part of the first half a number of times before the Marauders got caught on a penalty. Gael Dave Worsley would find the space between the posts for the opening 3 points of the game.

Later on in the half, the Gaels would make a push to gain a large lead. Pat Richardson would complete Queens' first try of the match about 20 minutes in but Worsley would miss the convert.

Before the half was over, Worsley would put up ten more points of the Gaels to go ahead 18-0 heading into the second half of the match.

Early in the second, a penalty goal from Worsley and a try from Queen's veteran Dan Moor would extend the visitors lead to 26 before the Marauders got on the board.

With 20 minutes left to go in the match, speedy Chris Gordon would find an opening along the sideline and make the score for McMaster's first try of the regular season. Andrew Ferguson would connect for the extra two points.

Nearing the end of the half, Queen's Tim Richardson would run the ball in for the Gael's last try and Worsley would add his last two points of the match to total 18. Deep in the Gaels end, Ferguson would add seven more points to McMaster's score in the dying minutes of the match.

The Marauders host the Guelph Gryphonsin a rematch of last years OUA bronze medal game on Sunday in their second game of the regular season.
