The McMaster football team will put its undefeated record on the line at the Western University homecoming game on Saturday afternoon, September 29
th.
Being the 99
th Homecoming game for Western, a crowd in excess of 10,000 is expected at TD Waterhouse Stadium, with a healthy contingent of Maroon supporters on hand to crash the party. Six buses for McMaster fans sold out quickly early in the week and they will make the trek to London to cheer on the top-ranked Marauders.
Amidst several subplots for the contest is that a McMaster win will put the Marauders in position to clinch first-place in the OUA and gain homefield advantage through the playoffs. Western also needs a victory to have a shot at top spot in the division, but having already lost to Queen’s, other variables need to fall in place for the Mustangs.
All three of the OUA weekly award winners will be playing in the game, as McMaster’s Kyle Quinlan and Tyler Crapigna were recognized as the Offensive and Special Teams players of the week respectively, and Western’s Harold Mutabola was named Defensive player of the week.
The rivalry between McMaster and Western has become very intense, with the Marauders defeating the Mustangs for the 2011 Yates Cup in London. There is an excellent chance that, whichever team wins on Saturday, these teams could meet in the post-season with bigger stakes on the line.
The game is officially sold out so if you have not purchased tickets in advance, there will be none available at the stadium on gameday.
The game is being carried live by
The Score television network and being broadcast on radio in Hamilton on AM900 CHML.
