Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's basketball team won their first game of the 2011 season over the University of Glasgow. In the non-conference game, the Marauders easily pulled out the win by a score of 102-58.
In the first quarter, Glasgow and McMaster would trade leads, keeping the game close. But after the first quarter, the Marauders would slowly build up their lead and wouldn't look back, earning the win.
"Tonight's game was a good start to the season given strong leadership from captains Cam (Michaud) and Vic (Raso)," said head coach Amos Connolly.
The Marauders veterans each had big games for McMaster. Michaud (Grimsby, Ont.), last year's leading scorer, scored 20 points and grabbed another eight rebounds. Raso (Hamilton, Ont.) added a game high 26 points for the maroon, tallied nine rebounds and had nine assists on the night.
Connolly was also impressed with rookie Aaron Redpath (Oakville, Ont.). "I was excited to see Aaron come out of shell with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the night, six of those coming on the offence."
After starting out the season with a win, the Marauders will hope to continue with the winning momentum with another non-conference game against Mohawk College on October 11 at Burridge Gymnasium.
