MARAUDERS WIN BATTLE WITH BADGERS

Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's rugby team got back on track on Saturday with a win over the Brock Badgers. Andrew Ferguson lead the way in points with three converts and a drop goal to help earn the 24-20 win.

McMaster opened up the scoring in the match with a drop goal by Ferguson. After battling it out for the majority of the first half, McMaster would be the first to score a try, coming from Grant Schneider. Ferguson would kick the convert for the extra two points to go up 10-0.

Before the half would finish, Brock would respond with a try of their own from Reece Hummel but Hugh McDonell would miss the convert. The Marauders would lead going into the second half 10-5.

McMaster once again opened up the scoring with a try from Taylor Wilenski with Ferguson kicking the convert to go up 17-5. Shortly after, the Badgers would respond with a drive of their own to score a try thanks to MacDonell, but the convert would be missed.

Brock would shorten the gap further with another try later in the half from Ty Riddick to bring the Badgers within two.

After a tough drive, and continued stops from the Badgers, McMaster's Chris Gordon would find a hole in the Badger defence and take advantage. Gordon would run the distance for the much needed try. Ferguson would kick his third convert of the day for the 24-15 lead.

With ten minutes to go, Brock would score again, keeping the match close. The try went to Matthew Alexander but MacDonell would miss the convert. The score would end 24-20 for the Marauders as the Badgers couldn't capitalize in the dying minutes of the match.

The Marauders are next in action against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, October 7.
