The third-year Biochemistry student, who took over as the Marauders player-coach in 2018, did his part to bring his team success as McMaster battled through the three-day OUA Championships hosted by UOIT in Oshawa.
Chow compiled a remarkable 5-0 record as the Marauders lead singles player, and lost just two games in those five matches. He defeated Carleton’s Jacob Lewis and Ryerson’s Angus Finnigan to help Mac to a pair of lopsided pool victories on the first day of competition on February 15, before closing out pool play by recovering from a dropped first game against Western’s Sean McGowan to take the next two 21-10 and 21-19.
Although his Marauders ultimately lost out on a podium place by the slimmest of margins -- dropping a 5-5 match to the Mustangs in a bronze medal rematch on a games-won tiebreaker (12-11) -- Chow himself continued to have success on Sunday, adding singles wins over Waterloo’s Aaron Hsu in the semifinals and Western’s Sean McGowan.
He competed in doubles only once, and partnered Martin Chan to a win in the bronze medal match over Western’s Jeffrey Chui and Christopher Wu.
For his efforts, the 2017 OUA Rookie of the Year was named as an OUA All-Star.
