Joe Valvasori

McMaster Experience: 2 seasons (2017-2018)

Completing his second season as the head coach of the Marauders in 2018, Joe Valvasori led the program to its first appearance at the U SPORTS national championship in 11 years and an OUA bronze medal.

Having made the move to the sideline of the McMaster women’s soccer program in the summer of 2017, Valvasori had been a part of soccer at the University for nearly a decade.

The long-time coach, who has 15 years of coaching experience with the Hamilton Sparta club where he is currently the Technical Director, Valvasori has been an assistant coach alongside Dino Perri on the Marauders men’s staff for the past eight seasons. He boasts National ‘B’ level coaching licenses from both the Canadian Soccer Association and the United States Soccer Federation.

During his tenure with the Marauders men, they claimed two OUA championships and two conference silver medals, winning a national silver medal in 2014.

His experience at Sparta includes four years as the coach of the senior men’s program in the Ontario Soccer League and six years with the senior women’s program of the Ontario Women’s Soccer League.

Valvasori played two seasons of varsity soccer at the OCAA level with Mohawk College, where he was the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Season by Season:

2018: The Marauders finished conference play with an 8-3-5 record and entered the OUA playoffs as the fourth seed in the West Division ... McMaster earned a 2-0 win over Brock in the first round and defeated the top-seeded Guelph Gryphons 2-1 in the quarter-finals to advance to the OUA Final Four for the first time since 2012 ... The Marauders were beaten 3-2 on penalties by the eventual OUA champions, the Ottawa Gee-Gees, before rebounding to shut out Queen's 3-0 in the bronze medal match and earn a berth at the U SPORTS Championship for the first time since 2007 ... McMaster upset the defending national champions, the Montreal Carabins 1-0 in the national quarter-finals before being beaten 4-1 by the host Gee-Gees in a semifinal 1-0 by the Cape Breton Capers in the bronze medal match, finishing fourth ... Forward Stephanie Roberts was named as a Second Team All-Canadian and finished the season with a U SPORTS-leading total of 14 goals ... Roberts was named an OUA West First Team All-Star, while Grace Grafham and Mary Craig cracked the Second Team ... Roberts was a finalist for the Therese Quigley Award for McMaster's female athlete of the year.

2017: Guided McMaster to a 5-6-5 record in his first season at the helm which earned the Marauders the fifth seed in the OUA West ... McMaster was defeated 2-0 by the Laurier Golden Hawks in an OUA first round playoff in Waterloo ... Midfielder Jessie Faber was named an OUA First Team All-Star ... Defender Mary Craig, midfielder Cassidy Davis and striker Maila Carboni were named OUA Second Team All-Stars.
