The McMaster Marauder logo may only be used in official University materials, documents or communications produced by or for the University. The identity cannot be modified or altered in any way and must be presented in approved colours and font only as outlined in these guidelines. It may not be used for commercial use or by any unauthorized individual or organization.

Logo size and dimensions

To ensure quality and readability, the minimum size of the McMaster logo should not be less than 3.75 cm (1.5 inches) wide.

The logo must always be used to scale and in equal proportions – it cannot be graphically stretched out of proportion in any way.
Versions of the logo

The McMaster University logo may be used in a one-colour version in marketing and advertising materials using maroon, or black; or a three-colour version on any print or electronic materials that incorporates maroon, black and white.
Do not:

alter the size, relationship or position of the type or the bird's head in the logo

alter the colour of any part of the identity beyond the approved variations provided in this guideline

overprint type or photos, or place elements over the logo

add borders or other graphic elements to the logo

separate the elements of the logo (wording, M, or bird's) use on athletic uniforms
Preserving the effectiveness of the McMaster Marauder brand is essential.
Use of the McMaster Marauder brands

Positioning of McMaster Marauder brand must be in addition to the McMaster University brand

Both brands must be produced in full-colour on letterhead, business cards and websites

Both identities must be consistent in colour on envelopes and other stationery e.g. both full-colour or both one-colour

One-colour versions of both identities may be used on other print materials

The positioning of both brands must follow approved guidelines for layout and design on letterhead, business cards and marketing materials
Letterhead
On official letterhead, positioning of two identities includes the McMaster University brand in the top left corner and the McMaster Marauder brand in the bottom left corner. Both brands are in full-colour and are positioned equal distance from the edge of the paper and are of equal proportion. All contact information follows the format of McMaster University letterhead with the information in a grid across the top of the page in black ink.

Business Cards
Positioning of two brand identities includes the McMaster University brand in the top left corner and the McMaster Marauder brand in the bottom left corner. Both brands are in full-colour and are positioned equal distance from the edge of the card and are of equal proportion. All contact information is positioned on the right side of the card as per the McMaster University stationery guidelines outlined within this document. All business cards will use the horizontal format only.

Co-branding marketing items
Marketing and promotional items may be produced with approved co-brands.

The two identities must appear in equal size and proportion.

They must be consistent in colour e.g. both full colour or both one-colour versions of he approved logos.

The logos may, but do not have to be positioned together. Positioning may be determined as what is most appropriate for the item.
Third logo approval process
All Third logo requests must be submitted to the Athletics and Recreation Office of Communications. Requests will be forwarded for approval to the Office of Public Relations for the University. Logos not approved through this process may not be used on Athletics and Recreation materials of any kind.
All approved third brands must always be used in addition to the McMaster Marauder brand as outlined in the visual identity guidelines.

To ensure quality logo artwork is created consistently for third brands, the Office of Public Relations will provide a list of graphic design suppliers who are experienced in this area. The suppliers are familiar with the University’s visual identity guidelines to know how third logos can be used to complement the McMaster and the McMaster Marauder brand.
