Football 
September 19th - W: 18-16 vs Laurier | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders remained undefeated Saturday afternoon, rallying late to defeat the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 18-16 in front of a sold-out Homecoming crowd at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Before kickoff, McMaster honoured coaching legend Greg Marshall ahead of his retirement, recognizing his impact on the program, including leading the Marauders to their first Yates Cup championship in 2000.

Laurier opened the scoring on a 24-yard touchdown run from Tayshaun Jackson. McMaster responded with a safety and three Michael Horvat field goals to take a 12-10 lead into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Laurier regained the lead with 2:41 remaining when Will Russell connected with Jaxon Stebbings for an eight-yard touchdown, putting the Golden Hawks ahead 16-12.

Needing a touchdown, quarterback Lucas Barresi led McMaster down the field on the final drive. Shane Wismer made two key receptions before Barresi found Nathan Denkers for a
four-yard touchdown with 42 seconds remaining, giving McMaster an 18-16 lead.

Laurier had one final opportunity, but Nick Garcia recorded a critical sack to help seal the victory. 

Barresi finished 18-of-30 for 240 yards and a touchdown, while Wismer recorded six receptions for 83 yards. Horvat added nine points with three field goals.

McMaster's defence recorded three sacks and an interception while holding Laurier to 59 rushing yards.

The Marauders improve to 4-0 and will visit the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m.

Women's Soccer 
September 18th - L: 1-2 at Western | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders (2-2-1) lost 2-1 against the Western Mustangs (2-3-1) on Friday, September 18th. 

McMaster had a tremendous start to the game. Just 46 seconds in, fourth-year forward, Mea Martel (Ottawa, Ont.), crossed a ball into Oliva Blair (Mississauga, Ont.) who's first  attempt was stopped but Blair stayed persistent and scored on her rebound. 

The Marauders continued to control play for most of the half. The Marauders had twelve shot attempts with five on target. Martel led McMaster with two shots on target. 

Goalie, Lucie Duffy (London, Ont.), was not tested in the first half as the Marauders stingy defense kept Western to just two shot attempts, neither finding the target. 

The Marauders were unable to keep the same level of play entering the second half. Western scored in the 55th minute to tie the game up. Just two minutes later, Duffy, who finished with two saves on the day, made a monster save to keep the game at 1 apiece. 

After some back-and-forth play, Western took the 2-1 lead in the 86th minute, that remained for the rest of the game. 

McMaster struggled offensively in the second half, only recording three shot attempts with none finding the target. Defensively, McMaster still played organized and limited Western to just four shots on target. 

September 20th - T: 0-0 vs Windsor | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders (2-2-1) took on the Windsor Lancers (2-4-1) and drew 0-0 at Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday.

McMaster dominated early possession, taking 10 shot attempts with nine being on target in just 25 minutes. Ravena Braich (Oakville, Ont.), Maria Annibale (Toronto, Ont.), Shalagh Guha (Waterloo, Ont.) and Emma Fluit (London, Ont.) all had great opportunities to open the scoring, but their efforts were thwarted. 

The rest of the half was back-and-forth with neither team recording a shot on goal. While McMaster finished with nine shots on target, they also limited Windsor to just three shot attempts with one being on target. 

Both teams brought a defensive mindset to the second half. McMaster shut down Windsor, limiting them to just seven total shot attempts and two on target. Lucie Duffy (London, Ont.) earned her third clean sheet of the season.

Offensively, the Marauders took six shot attempts with two being on target in the second half. The best chance in the half for McMaster came in the 60th minute, Guha took a strike from distance on target which was saved. 

Next up, McMaster takes on the Guelph Gryphons back at home on Friday, September 25th.

Men's Soccer
September 18th - L: 3-1 at Western | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders (2-2-1) faced off against the Western Mustangs (3-1-2). The tight matchup ended up finishing 3-1 in favour of the Mustangs. 

Through the first half, both teams defended well as only one shot found the target between the two teams. McMaster's best chance of the half came from fourth-year Marauder, Tiago Palhetas (Mississauga, Ont.), who hit the post in 5th minute of the half. In the 17th minute, Western took the lead that stuck until halftime. 

McMaster conceded a second goal just three minutes into the second half. A fantastic individual effort from Windsor native, Nicolas Fontecha, hit the post and second-year forward, AJ Robichaud (Burlington, Ont.), buried the rebound, cutting the lead to one. 

McMaster battled to tie the game up. Veteran defender, Damiano Refosco (Hamilton, Ont.), came close with an opportunity in the 90th minute but could not find the back of the net. 

Western scored another goal in the 90th minute, and the game finished 3-1. McMaster finished the game with four shot attempts with two being on target. The Marauders held  Western to four shots on target. 

September 20th- W: 3-1 vs Windsor | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders (3-2-1) had a strong 3-1 victory against the Windsor Lancers (1-7-0) on Sunday. 

The Marauders got off to a quick start, pouring on pressure early. First-year Marauder, and Windsor native, Nico Fontecha, had two great opportunities stymied. 

Defender, Josiah Bethune (Toronto, Ont.), received a corner kick delivery from Karl Espiro (Burlington, Ont.) and headed the ball off crossbar. 

In the 28th minute, McMaster opened the scoring. Fontecha assisted third-year Marauder, Romain Sordet's (Oakville, Ont.), beautiful individual effort for the tally. Just three minutes later, Windsor responded, tying the game up at 1. 

The game was tied at half; McMaster recorded nine shot attempts with five reaching the target. Windsor was limited to five shot attempts. Marauders' Goaltender, Ethan Cagalj  (Stoney Creek, Ont.) made one save in the first half. 

Three minutes into the second half, AJ Robichaud (Burlington, Ont.) picked up his own rebound for his second goal of the season which gave McMaster the 2-1 lead. Robichaud 
nearly added to the lead as he just missed wide moments later. 

In the 77th minute, Espiro played a great ball in to fifth-year forward, Christian Alfieri (Milton, Ont.), who scored and gave the Marauders a two-goal lead. McMaster held the lead in large part due to Cagalj's clutch play that saw him make five key saves late in the game. 

McMaster generated seven shot attempts with one hitting the target, totalling sixteen shot attempts and eight on target. Cagalj finished the game with nine saves. 

Next up, McMaster will face the Guelph Gryphons at Ron Joyce Stadium at 8:15pm on September 25th.

Women's Rugby 
September 18th - L: 7-43 vs Western 
After back-to-back wins to open the season, the McMaster women's rugby team found themselves ranked #9 nationally in the most recent USports poll. However, they were in tough kicking off the homecoming weekend facing the women from Western University, who were ranked #6 in the country and are also unbeaten this season.

Western had a strong opening scoring the first try of the match but the Marauders fought back with a try of their own courtesy of scrum half Madeline Robinet (Whitby, Ont). Fifth year Chayse Palfi (Keswick, Ont) added a successful conversion. McMaster played valiantly throughout the first half but found themselves trailing 7-22 at the break. The second half saw the Mustangs extend their lead despite McMaster fighting hard throughout and the final whistle ended the game with McMaster on the short end of a 7-43 score. Laura Williams (Erin, Ont) was particularly notable on the defensive side stopping Western from scoring a try.  

It doesn't get easier for the McMaster women as next up on the schedule is a trip to Kingston to face the #2 ranked nationally, Gaels from Queen's University at Nixon Field on Saturday, September 26th @ 4:30pm. 

Men's Rugby 
September 18th - T: 28-28 vs Toronto

After a win in their season opener, The Marauders men's rugby team faced the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men at Ron Joyce Stadium on Friday night of homecoming weekend. The game started well for the Marauders scoring a long try in the opening minute courtesy of fifth year wing, Luka Wicken (Waterloo, Ont). Both teams scored four successfully converted tries all in the opening half as the teams went into the break with the score tied 28-28.

Eighty minutes of a hard-fought match did nothing to settle the matter with the final score ending in a 28-28 tie. McMaster's defence was exceptional in the second half not allowing the Varsity Blues to put any points on the board after the break. The try scoring was distributed across four different players with Wicken, Diego De Cosmi (Brantford, Ont), Gryffin Townsend (Simcoe, Ont), and Cole Francis (Ottawa, Ont) each earning one try apiece. First year fly half Kynan Gage (Toronto, Ont) was successful on all four conversions.

Next Up, your Marauders take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at Ansley Alumni Field in Waterloo on Saturday, September 26th at 12:00pm.

Men's Lacrosse
September 16th - L: 3-15 vs Western

The McMaster Marauders fell 15-3 to the Western Mustangs Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. 

Western opened the game with a strong offensive push, scoring nine unanswered goals through the first half to take a 9-0 lead into the halftime break. 

McMaster found the scoresheet in the third quarter, with Lincoln Gear opening the scoring for the Marauders at 14:33. Brennan Mee added another goal less than a minute later, with Gear scoring his second of the game in the fourth quarter. 

The Marauders continued to battle throughout the contest, but were unable to close the gap as Western added six goals in the second half. 

The Marauders move to 1-2 on the season following Wednesday's result. McMaster will look to regroup and return to the win column as the 2026 regular season continues. 

McMaster will continue its 2026 campaign with the Brock Badgers on September 19 at 5:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.

September 19th - L: 7-14 at Brock 

The McMaster Marauders men's lacrosse team fell 14-7 to the Brock Badgers on Saturday evening at Alumni Field. 
McMaster struck first, with Preston Gear opening the scoring just 1:39 into the contest off an assist from Nick Pospisil.

Brock answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead through the opening quarter.

The Badgers took control in the second, scoring seven times to build a 10-2 advantage at halftime. Gear scored his
second of the game for the Marauders in the quarter.

McMaster responded with a stronger second half, outscoring Brock 3-2 in the third quarter. Gear completed his hat trick and added another to finish the night with a team-high four goals as the Marauders cut into the deficit.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the fourth, with McMaster continuing to battle until the final whistle.

The Marauders finished with 19 shots on goal compared to Brock's 24. Calum Leaver Preyra and Neel Cargill split time in goal, each playing 30 minutes.

The loss moves McMaster to 1-3 on the season.

Field Hockey
September 19th- L: 0-3 at York | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders were away for their third game of the season as they took on the York Lions. Heading into the game, McMaster was looking to get some revenge on the Lions, who have historically had the Marauders number. 

They battled hard in the game but continued their winless streak as they fell 3-0. The Marauders came close to their first goal of the season but were unsuccessful. 

September 20th- L: 0-3 vs Queen's | Box Score

The McMaster Marauders fell 3-0 to the Queen's Gaels in their fourth game of the season. The Marauders are still searching for their first goal of the season. McMaster had a solid defensive effort in the loss. 

The Marauders next faceoff against the Western Mustangs on Thursday, September 24th at 7:30 pm.

Baseball 
The McMaster Marauders took on the Western Mustangs in a double-header on Sunday. 

September 20- W: 9-7 vs Western Mustangs (Game 1)

The Marauders earned their first win of the season against the Western Mustangs. The Marauders started third-year right-hander, Alex Van Raay (Hamilton, Ont.) in game 1. 

Van Raay pitched six strong innings, striking out four batters. Van Raay allowed one hit, and four walks, giving up four runs, with two being earned. 

Marcello Colucci (Oakville, Ont.) came in relief for the seventh inning. The righty recorded a strikeout while walking three batters. Fifth-year right-hander, Noah Law (Waterloo, Ont.), recorded the last two outs. 

The Marauders had contributions from every player offensively, recording ten hits and seven walks in the game. Six batters recorded hits with second-year Marauder, John Dykyj (Burlington, Ont.) leading the way with a 3-4 day. 

First baseman, Nathan Markle (Toronto, Ont.), and left fielder, Anden Cooper, both drew three walks on the day and each recorded a team-high two RBI's. 

McMaster put together a five-run fourth inning that ultimately set them up for their 9-7 victory. 

September 20- L: 6-15 vs Western Mustangs (Game 2)

In game two of the double header on Sunday, McMaster handed the ball to second-year Marauder, Premnath Nayak (Mississauga, Ont.). 

Nayak pitched three innings, striking out two and allowing seven hits. The righty finished with four earned runs against. 

Sam McMillian, Nikolas Proksel, Landon Maunder, and Sydney Stonehouse came in relief for Nayak. Combined across four innings, they allowed eleven earned runs on eleven hits 
and seven walks. 

Offensively, McMaster recorded five hits and drew seven walks. Lead-off hitter, Dylan Fenwick (Etobicoke, Ont.) led the team with a 2-4 day and an RBI. 

Seven different players drew walks while Fenwick and fourth-year outfielder, Kayan Alazem (Milton, Ont.) both scored twice in the game. 

McMaster is at home for a double header on Saturday, September 26th against the Brock Badgers. 

Fast Pitch
September 19th - L: 3-13 at Guelph
September 19th - L: 0-10 at Guelph 
September 20th - L: 0-7 at Laurier 
September 20th - L: 3-10 at Laurier 

The Marauders fast pitch team went up against some tough competition this weekend playing double headers on both Saturday and Sunday against the Guelph Gryphons and Laurier Golden Hawks respectively. The McMaster women continue to gain valuable experience against challenging teams. Some standouts on the season have included Jessica Henry (Mississauga, Ont), who is among the league leaders in hits and batting average on the season, and Lyza Gilbert (Milton, Ont), who is in the top ten in strikeouts.

Next Up, the Marauders have a very busy schedule to continue their season with three double headers on consecutive days. They face the Western University Mustangs in London in a double header on Friday night, September 25th starting at 7:00pm, before travelling to Windsor to face the Lancers on Saturday, September 26th with a 2:00pm start time. They end the weekend back at home in Hamilton for a rematch against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday, September 27th starting at 11:00am.

Rowing 
September 19th - Western Invitational
The McMaster Marauders' rowing team competed in the Western Invitational hosted by Western University at the Doug Wells Rowing Centre in London on September 19th. McMaster participated in the event along with 10 other Ontario Universities. The Marauders had 10 entries across 6 events on the women's side and the men had 6 entries in 4 events.

Next up for the rowing team will be the Head of the Trent regatta hosted by Trent University on Saturday, October 3rd in Peterborough.

Women's Lacrosse
September 20th - L: 0-3 vs Queen's 
September 20th - W: 7-5 at Ontario Tech

The McMaster Marauders split their women's lacrosse doubleheader Sunday, falling 15-0 to the Trent Excalibur before bouncing back with a 7-5 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. 

McMaster opened the day against Trent, facing the Excalibur in the first contest of the doubleheader. The Marauders were unable to find the back of the net, falling 15-0. 

Following the loss, McMaster had an opportunity to regroup before returning to the field for its second game of the day against Ontario Tech. The Marauders responded with a strong performance, earning a 7-5 victory over the Ridgebacks. 

The victory marked McMaster's second win of the 2026 season and allowed the Marauders to close out the doubleheader on a positive note. The split leaves McMaster with a 2-2 record following the day's action. 

The Marauders will return to action Sunday, September 27, facing the Guelph Gryphons at 8:30 a.m. before taking on the Brock Badgers at 1:45 p.m. Both games will be played at 
Varsity Field. McMaster will look to carry the momentum for its victory over Ontario Tech into the upcoming doubleheader

Rowing 
September 19th - Western Invitational

The McMaster Marauders' rowing team competed in the Western Invitational hosted by Western University at the Doug Wells Rowing Centre in London on September 19th. McMaster participated in the event along with 10 other Ontario Universities.

Lillian Bleecker took home the bronze medal in the Heavy Weight Women's 2- in a time of 8:16. Caitlyn Horton also saw similar success in the Light Weight Women's 2- taking home the bronze medal in a time of 8:30.

On the Men's side, Connor Kelly took the victory in the B final of the Heavy Weight Men's 4+ in a time of 7:22. 
Next up for the rowing team will be the Head of the Trent regatta hosted by Trent University on Saturday, October 3rd in Peterborough. 

Women's Tennis 
September 18th - W: 4-1 vs York
September 19th - W: 6-1 at Waterloo

The McMaster Marauders split a pair of OUA matchups over the weekend, earning a 4-1 victory over the York Lions on Friday before falling 6-1 to the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday. 

The Marauders opened the weekend on Friday evening, travelling to York for their second OUA matchup of the season. McMaster secured a 4-1 victory over the Lions to earn its second win of the campaign. 

McMaster returned to the court Sunday afternoon, hosting the Waterloo Warriors at Stoney Creek Tennis Club. The Marauders battled throughout the matchup, but ultimately fell 6-1 to Waterloo. 

The weekend split leaves McMaster with a 2-1 record through its opening three OUA matchups. The Marauders will look to build on their strong start as the 2026 regular season continues. 

McMaster will return to action Saturday, September 26, when the Marauders host the University of Ottawa at 12:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Tennis Club. The team will then close out the weekend Sunday, September 27, against Toronto Metropolitan University at 12:00 p.m. at Ancaster Tennis Club.
 

Men's Tennis
September 18th - L: 2-5 vs York
September 19th - W: 4-3 at Waterloo

The McMaster Marauders earned their first victory of the 2026 OUA season Saturday, splitting a pair of weekend matchups after falling 5-2 to the York Lions before defeating the Waterloo Warriors 4-3 at Stoney Creek Tennis Club. 

McMaster opened the weekend on Friday evening against York, battling the Lions in singles and doubles competition. The Marauders were unable to secure the team victory, falling 5-2 in their second OUA matchup of the season. 

The team returned to the court Saturday afternoon against Waterloo, looking to bounce back from Friday's result. McMaster delivered a strong performance, edging the Warriors 4-3 to secure its first win of the campaign. 

The narrow victory moves the Marauders to 1-2 on the season and gives the team momentum heading into another weekend of OUA action. McMaster will look to build on Saturday's result as the regular season continues. 

The Marauders will return to action Saturday, September 26, hosting the University of Ottawa at 12:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Tennis Club. McMaster will then close out the weekend Sunday, September 27, against Toronto Metropolitan University at 12:00 p.m. at Ancaster Tennis Club.

With their first victory of the season secured, the Marauders will look to continue their progress and add to their win total in the upcoming matchups. 

Golf 
September 20th at Brock Open 

The McMaster Marauders golf teams turned in a pair of strong performances at the Brock Invitational at Sawmill Golf Course, highlighted by a second-place finish from the women's team.

McMaster's women combined for a team score of 247, finishing just five strokes behind Guelph for the top spot. Kaylee Jeon led the Marauders with a round of 77, finishing just two strokes behind the individual leader. Shanya Christian followed with an 85, while Jimin Kim carded an 87. Emma Magee rounded out McMaster's competitors with a score of 105.

On the men's side, McMaster finished fifth in the team standings with a combined score of 318. Liam Ferney and Rowan Reynard led the way for the Marauders, each firing rounds of 77. Miles Chute, Matthew Martel and Sai Ganju each finished with scores of 82.

McMaster also had three individual entries in the men's competition. Sullivan McDaniel posted an 80, Nick Tripp finished with an 85 and Christian Ligori recorded an 87.

The Marauders will return to the course as they continue their fall schedule.
