HAMILTON, Ont. — Football's Ryan Broome (Grimsby, Ont.) and Women's Rugby's Caroline Dunlop (Calgary, Alta.) have been earned this week's TwelvEighty Athletes of the Week after a successful weekend for their respective teams.


Ryan Broome (Grimsby, Ont.)

The McMaster Marauders defense came up huge in their 20-11 win against the Guelph Gryphons to open the season 2-0. McMaster's defense recorded six sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception.

Defensive lineman, Ryan Broome, was an absolute force for McMaster's defense. The 6'2 Third-year Marauder had three sacks resulting in 24 yards lost and a forced fumble.

Broome also had four solo tackles, tied with teammate, Juan Vasquez (Charlotte, N.C., USA), for most on the team. Broome had a massive impact on the game as the Marauders held Guelph to just 11 points.


Caroline Dunlop (Calgary, Alta.)

The Women's Rugby team had a dominant season opener on Saturday, defeating Trent 81-5. Fourth-year Marauder, Caroline Dunlop made massive contributions to their success.

A key contributor to the Marauders backline, Dunlop made multiple strong carries that opened up space for her and her teammates. Dunlop scored two tries, earning 10 points for her team.

The 5'7 Alberta native, has been a leader for her team, being a supportive teammate with great communication as well as leading by example on the field, according to her coaches.

Dunlop will continue to be a key force for the team as the season continues.
