Marauders extend their winning streak after victory against the Badgers

HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team (6-14) avenged their January defeat with a 79-72 victory over the Brock Badgers (14-6) on Saturday afternoon at Burridge Gymnasium.

McMaster jumped out to an early lead, outscoring Brock 19-7 in the opening quarter. The Marauders' offensive pressure was led by Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.), who drained a three-pointer to extend McMaster's opening advantage, followed by a strong inside presence from Brendan Amoyaw (Winnipeg, Man.), who contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Badgers responded in the second quarter as they narrowed the gap to five at halftime.

Elijah Bethune (Toronto, Ont.) and Daniel Graham (Hamilton, Ont.) took charge for McMaster in the second half, each knocking down key shots to maintain the lead. Graham finished with 14 points, while Bethune added 11, including a clutch three-pointer midway through the third quarter. Ares Culley-Bremner (Hamilton, Ont.) made his presence felt off the bench, shooting 7-for-8 from the field for 14 points.

Despite Brock's late push, McMaster held firm, controlling the glass and capitalizing on second-chance points. The Marauders outrebounded the Badgers 35-31 and outscored them 42-16 in the paint.

With the win, Master elevated their recent momentum and earned a crucial victory heading into the final stretch of the season. The Marauders will look to build on this performance in their next match up against the Toronto Varsity Blues (7-12) on February 12.
