TORONTO, Ont. — On Saturday, the McMaster Marauders (9-6) faced the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-14) in the first of two meetings this season. McMaster would take the game 86-49, with Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) putting on a shooting clinic and the Marauder defense forcing multiple turnovers.
Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) started things off for the Marauders in the first quarter with a defensive rebound which led to an easy jumper. Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.) then got the three point shooting started to add to the Marauders early lead. McMaster would continue to come up with defensive stops with Stinson forcing a turnover and finishing off with a layup. Toronto would tie the game at 11, but McMaster would finish the first quarter with a one point lead.
Early in the second quarter, Stinson rose up to hit a three point jump shot to take back the lead and would stay hot through the quarter hitting back to back threes later on. Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) had a strong quarter sinking a three of her own to give the Marauders a ten point lead at half.Â
The sharp shooting continued throughout the second half with Mataseje hitting a three early in the third and again at the start of the fourth. Bourget then hit a three to expand the Marauders lead to 30. Stinson would hit two more threes in the fourth to lead the Marauders to a 86-49 victory over the Varsity Blues. Stinson would finish the day with 23 points.
