Marauders big home win against Thunderbirds

HAMILTON, Ont. — On Monday, the McMaster Marauders (9-6) faced the Algoma Thunderbirds (1-13) in Burridge Gymnasium for a School Day Game.

The Marauders started strong in the first quarter with a three-point jumper from Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) just minutes into the game. Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) followed up with another three-pointer, extending the Marauders' lead to 14-5. McMaster dominated possession, and Urosevic added a breakaway layup to give her team a 12-point advantage. The score at the end of the quarter was 24-16.

The action continued in the second quarter. Cassie Joli-Coeur (Johnstown, Ont.) opened with a layup for two points. The Marauders kept the Thunderbirds on their heels, with Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) adding another breakaway layup. McMaster's strong rebounding allowed them to maintain their lead. Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) capped off the quarter with a three-point jumper, and the Marauders went into halftime with a 46-31 lead.

After the break, the Thunderbirds came out aggressively, attempting to close the gap. However, McMaster's defence held firm. The quarter got exciting when the Marauders hit several three-pointers, including back-to-back threes from Stinson and another from Urosevic. At the end of the third, the score was 66-56 in favour of McMaster.

In the final quarter, the Marauders maintained their energy. Three-pointers from Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.), Urosevic, Ashley Guerriero (Newmarket, Ont.), and Stinson helped extend the lead. The game ended with a final score of 90-64 for McMaster.

The Marauders will face the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-13) on Jan. 25 in Toronto, Ont.
