Four Marauders scored in double figures as the squad used a balanced effort to find redemption after last night's upset. The Marauders washed over the Thunderwolves, 81-76.
Leading the Marauders was
Tyler Garcia with 15 points, while off the bench AY Osude hit 12.
Nathan Charles also recorded 12, plus three steals and four assists.
As the first quarter went underway, Lakehead found the early lead and held it until less than halfway through. The Marauders gained traction with a couple of
Nathan Charles layups and
Elijah Bethune 3s and ended the quarter up 21-15. In the second the Thunderwolves made ground and equalized. The lead saw five changed versions in the second alone, but in déjà vu, the Marauders walked into halftime holding a slim upper score of 42-39.
Matching their previous two quarters in points, the Marauders posted 21 in the third. With lower field goal percentages, the Marauders found luck at the line with 11 free throws, off the Thunderwolves 7 third-quarter fouls.
After a call in the Marauders' favour didn't sit well with the Thunderwolves, they kicked it into high gear and took back the lead with just 4 minutes to go. 66-67. Switching leads practically every possession the clock was at 1:19 with a balanced score of 74 all. Demagus splashed water on what appeared to be a scoring drought, hitting a clutch three with .30 seconds remaining, bringing the Marauders to 79-76.
The next play saw an inbounding
Parker Davis, who sent it to a heavily guarded
Mike Demagus, who then planted the play for Charles with the layup. Down by 5 with .13 seconds on the clock, Lakehead ran out of options, and the Marauders were victorious in their last regular season game of the season.
The Marauders doubled the Thunderwolves' bench points with 30-15, however, the Thunderwolves outrebounded the men in Maroon. The win came down to more shots and higher success rates.
What's next?
The Marauders will hit the road for round one of playoffs on Wednesday, February 21st. Stay tuned for more details.
