Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Briana Da Silva, Sports Information Assistant

Marauders cash in 43 points above Thunderwolves with a final score of 89-46

The Lakehead Thunderwolves were coming off a high, after breaking a 7 game loss streak in their last matchup. However, the Marauders were also holding strong looking to extend their 6 game win streak. The Marauders found their victory in an overflow of 89-46.

Tonight's game in Burridge was larger than basketball, as we celebrated Black History month and the unveiling of the Black History Jerseys.

In a familiar fashion, it was Jenna Button to lead all scorers with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Amy Stinson, Cassie Joli-Coeur and Sophia Urosevic all joined the double-digit collective with respective 16, 14 and 12 points.

Once the clock started Lakehead went to the races kicking open the game with a three, which was returned instantly from Mataseje. The Marauders continued on with a 16 point run to wrap the quarter 23-5. By the end of the first half it was double digit points for Jenna Button, and the Marauders more than doubled the Thunderwolves score, with 47-22.

With the third underway the Marauders had built a lengthy lead. Mataseje and the entire squad were playing an intense defensive game with strong steals and jabs. With the Marauders posting 12 steals and taking 41 rebounds, their defence helped them land on top.

Going into the fourth up by 25, the Marauders continued to hammer in buckets. The ladies posted 24 to Thunderwolves' 6 in the final quarter alone. The home team went 45.2% from the field, helped by 38.1% from the arch and 75% from the line.

Playing every dressed player for at least 5 minutes, the Marauders rounded out the stats, while playing hard as a unit. The team served 24 assists throughout the match.

The Marauders closed out the game with a 43 point difference to shake the Thunderwolves in game one of the weekends double header.

What's Next?

The Marauders return to action on Saturday night, for their senior night, once again against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
