An intense night in Burridge Gymnasium as the Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders faced off. The Badgers' first-half rush overtook the Marauders and paved the way for their win, 81-66.
Â
With OUA playoffs looming, every team is fighting to rack up the points, including the Badgers, who went into the contest with a 9-11 record and upset the Marauders who held an 11-8 record.
Â
Moody Qasim led both teams in points scored with 23, 15 of which came from 3-pointers. Right behind came
Mike Demagus with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Â
In the opening quarter, the Marauders had shooting trouble and watched the Badgers pull away. Despite outshooting their opponents the Marauders faced lower success rates. 6 of the home team's first-quarter points came from second attempts. Going into the next quarter with a chase to make, the Marauders boosted their shooting percentages by 5, from both the field and the 3-point round.
Â
The second quarter came with more heat from the Marauders squad. With a scuffle late in the second, the third was guaranteed to bring smoke. Heading into the half, the match was going Brock's way as they led 46-31.
Â
Coming out of the locker room, McMaster was playing in a different mindset, as the squad played a defence heavy quarter. Despite the Badgers pulling their largest lead of the night with 21 points with 3:28 to go, the Marauders shrunk that down to 13, after an 8-point run to round the score to 63-50.
Â
The fourth quarter continued bouncing in the Badgers' favour. In the final minute of play,
Moody Qasim started a run with a layup, which was kept alive by Demagus making a jumper and running it back with a 3. While exciting, the run ran out of time to make the game turn. The Badgers closed out the night 81-66.
