SEASON PREVIEW: Marauders are gearing up for a strong 2024-2025 season

HAMILTON, Ont. —The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team are ready to go as the team begins its season on Friday.

The Marauders boast a good mix of veterans as well as young players on the program this year. The maroon will bring back four of their five starters from last year.

Key Players

Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.), Point Guard
Mataseje averaged 26 minutes per game scoring 4.5 points, 4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 3 steals per game last season.

Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.), Guard
Frankovic had a brilliant rookie season coming off the bench last year. The OUA All-Rookie team member averaged just over 20 minutes of playing time, scoring 9.8 points, 1.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.), Forward
Stinson was a key piece to the 2023-24 team as she has strong versatility in her game. The 5' 11 forward started all 22 games, recording 10.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1 steal per game.

It will be a new look backcourt for the Marauders as Mataseje and rookie standout, Frankovic, will be expected to carry the load as they will try to fill the void of all-star guard, Jenna Button (Dundas, Ont.), who aged out of the program this season.

Rookie guards, Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.) and A'Mya Rawlins-Thomas (Ajax, Ont.) are the only new additions to the McMaster squad. Head coach, Teresa Burns, has high expectations for her rookies stating, "… (We have) two strong first years who can both defend as well as play up tempo and create offense…".

The Marauders finished last season with a strong 15-7 regular season record including an eight-game win streak to end the season. The maroon eventually fell in the OUA quarter finals. This season, Coach Burns' team sets their sights on the 2024-2025 Critelli Cup, a trophy that has alluded the Marauders since the 2018-2019 season.

The Marauders take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at their home opener on Friday at 6pm.
