HAMILTON, Ont. — The OUA Tennis Championships took place on Thanksgiving weekend. The men's and women's teams began play on Friday in Markham, Ont.
The Marauders' women came into competition as the no. 3 ranked team based on their back-to-back bronze medals in the last two competitions. The maroon did not disappoint putting together a 5-2 win knocking off the no.6 ranked Brock Badgers after day one.
The Marauders faced the Waterloo Warriors in the semi-final and dominated with a 6-1 win, earning a spot in the final. On day three, the Marauders took home silver hardware after falling to the reigning champions, the Varsity Blues.
In her final year,
Eva Feddema (Oakville, Ont.) continued to show why she is a leader for the Marauders team. Feddema played an integral part in the Marauders success. In game one against the Badgers, Feddema picked up a key singles win in straight sets.
She would follow up her day one performance with two crucial wins including her doubles match and a comeback win in her singles match on line two. For her strong efforts, Feddema was named a tournament all-star.
Along with Feddema, second-year athlete,
Scarlett Wang (Ottawa, Ont.) also earned all-star honors for her performance in the tournament and Women's Tennis Head Coach, Megan Mazer, was named OUA Coach of the Year.
During match one, the McMaster men took on the York Lions and would fall in a 7-0 sweep, eliminating them from championship contention.
