Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Briana Da Silva, Sports Information Assistant

Women's basketball overwhelms Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, taking home the win, 94-64

Coming back from the defeat of last night, the Marauders sought redemption. Not only did they find it against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, but they feasted on it, taking the win 94-64.

The Marauders enjoyed a balanced offensive effort, as Cassie Joli-Coeur (20 points, 10-for-14 FG), Jenna Button (12 points, 10 rebounds), and Sophia Urosevic (13 points, six assists) all finished in double-figures.

After Ridgeback's Marie Stasiuk opened the game with a 3-pointer, the Marauders picked up. Returning the possession with one of her own, Deanna Matasje put her team on the board, and the Marauders went the remaining 39 minutes without seeing another deficit.

Ontario Tech posted their best shooting quarter in the third… however, so did the Marauders. McMaster's firing heat from the 3-point arch (going 5-for-6) was too strong for the home team. By the tail end of the third quarter, Mac lengthened their lead to 20 points, leaving the Ridgebacks in the dust.

Kicking off the final quarter, Joli-Coeur flexed her defensive and offensive muscle. Posting a jumper, directly followed by one defensive rebound to another offensive rebound, then finally putting away the layup. Halfway through the quarter the Marauders started drilling 3s, with consecutive ones from Button, Amy Stinson, and Emily Frankovic. Soon enough there was a minute remaining and the Marauders were up by 35.

No team could ever see a perfect game, but McMaster put in visible work to grab loose ends. With 11 2nd chance points, the Marauders also sunk 17 points off turnovers. The squad held a huge presence in the paint, popping in 26 points from the area alone.
