The McMaster Marauders keep their win streak alive with a 1-0 win against the York Lions.
Tonight, the Marauders proved to the Lions why they are the No. 1 OUA West seed.
Large credits are due to the Marauders back line. Bryanna Caldwell and Sara Vogel demonstrated the third year connection continuously breaking plays, while Lindsay Barwitzki sprung the side lines to generate offensive plays, and Kiarra Bailey shut down the Lions sprinting wingers.
The first 45 minutes of game saw no goals, but four shots for the Marauders. The Lions were unable to test Ali Mudie, with 0 shots on goal. Both teams held their own playing conservative halves, which saw a change up in the second half.
3 lineup changes at halftime brought McMaster out with a strong attacking squad. With possession remaining in the Lions half for majority of the second half, the Marauders kept the shots going. In the 70th minute, Jade Abreo sent a cross in from the right bottom baseline, which was met with a classic Caldwell header, putting the Marauders up by 1.
Something the score sheet can't demonstrate was the hustle and cohesion the team showed up with. Their runs didn't slow down from the start to the end and neither did the accuracy of passes or quality of balls. The teams' next reunion is anticipated to be yet another tough battle.
