The McMaster Marauders Women Soccer team took the Algoma Thunderbirds by storm with a double digit victory, 11-0.
The Marauders stat sheet saw some familiar and new faces this game. Alena Spehar grips the OUA Goal Scoring title, adding a third hat-trick of the season to her resume. All around, the Marauders played an offensive game, which opened opportunities for Bryanna Caldwell to play up, and eventually, get her name on the goal sheet.
The game kicked off early with an 8th minute goal. Ravina Braich ran the ball halfway up the pitch followed by a cross in to Alena Spehar, who sunk it. Within a few minutes, Caldwell stepped to and lobbed a textbook ball in, from past the 35 yard mark, putting the Marauders up 2-0. Less than ten minutes later, Spehar found the back of the net once again. In the 26th minute, Ignacia Jimenez set the play for Alyssa Wheeler, who locked in her first goal of the season. The fifth goal of the game, wasted no time just 2 minutes after the fourth. It was Spehar who found a loose rebound and tipped it in. Lindsey Barwitzki was instrumental in the Marauders next two goals, with an assist and one of her own.
Coming back to the match after half time, Joelle Chackal perfectly place a strike from outside of the 16, and the Marauders were up by 8. Following that, it was Megan Soo who blasted a left foot bullet, 25 yards out, to find the back of the net. Approaching the double digit mark, Caldwell buried a top pocket header off of a corner kick. The squad sealed off the match with an 11th goal in the 89 minute, right before the ref blew the three whistles.
