WINDSOR, Ont. - Behind a record-breaking peformance by
Sarah Gates, the McMaster Marauders women's basketball team secured a 48-46 victory over the host Windsor Lancers on Saturday afternoon.
Recording her 18th straight double-digit scoring performance of the season, the fifth-year sensation recorded 25 points in 40 minutes of action, becoming the all-time leading scorer in McMaster women's basketball history in the process. In addition to her offensive output, the Newmarket local also delivered at the defensive end with nine rebounds and one steal. The veteran guard is the leading scorer in the nation this season, averaging 26.1 PPG, four points more than her nearest competitor.
Contributing in the come-from-behind effort, which saw the Marauders down by three at the halftime break,
Amy Stinson and
Mia Spadafora combined for 13 points, while the team defense came to life holding the Lancers to just ten total points in the final quarter. Spadafora has been lights out from beyond the arc this season, averaging a U SPORTS best 49.4% from 3-point range.
