For the first time since 2001, the McMaster Marauders took down the Carleton Ravens 80-66.
Â
Mike Demagus led McMaster offensively, finishing the game with a game-high 28, and a career high of seven assists. Demagus also picked six rebounds and three blocks.
AY Osunde came off the bench and recorded 20 points, with five mentionable threes.
Â
After Carleton put up the first basket, the Marauders responded with a six point run, and back to back steals from
Brendan Amoyaw. The lead kept on exchanging between squads, but when the clock ran out it was the Marauders who took the first quarter 16-15.
Â
Heading into the second quarter with a sense of their competition, the Marauders leveled up to leave the Ravens behind. With a whopping 60% from the field, 42.9% from the arch, and 70% at the line, the Marauders to outscore the Ravens 28-17.
Â
While holding the lead for most of the first half, the third quarter was a turning point. The energy was felt on and off the court. Back to back threes from
AY Osunde topped by a
Riaz Saliu rebound, brought a 13 point lead and a timeout for Carleton. Returning from the t.o., McMaster kept dropping points, adding 10 and to the 15-0 point run. Â The Marauders found their largest lead of the night with 23 points, making the Ravens question if a comeback was possible.
Â
The final quarter found a calm end to a lively face off. With yells from the crowd to "protect your house", the Marauders did just that, showing Carleton the boot after a 22 year spell. They may be a crowd of Ravens, but the Marauders, leading the OUA Central, showed them an unkindness tonight.
Â
Taking the game 80-66, the Marauders used turnover points to their advantage with 20 points from them, compared to Carleton's 4. The Marauders also outdid the Ravens in bench points with 37, to their 23.
Â
After the historic win, the Marauders will hope to continue their win streak as they play their next game on Saturday December 2nd with an 8 p.m. tip-off, against the Ottawa Gee Gees.
