In a tough defeat, the McMaster Marauders were knocked by the TMU Bold. TMU stands undefeated, and proved to the Marauders why, after tonight.
Four Marauders scored in double figures, led by Mike Demagus with 15 points, AY Osunde finding 13 and Moody Qasim dishing 11.
Nathan Charles was a villain on the boards holding more than one-third of the team's rebounds. He scooped 6 offensive and five defensive. Simultaneous to 11 points, and five assists.
Getting into the game, a second-quarter hustle found McMaster a strong 73.3 field goal per cent, with .5s on 3-pointers and free throws. Off the bench, 6'9 Brendan Amoyaw helped on the defensive end, while the Marauders went for points. Narrowly outscoring TMU helped combat their developed lead from the first quarter, where the Marauders were struggling.
Going into the second half, the squad found themselves only down by two.
The third and fourth quarters provided a pivotal opportunity for the Marauders. As a team that has had to reach for comebacks in their past three games, it wasn't unfamiliar. This narrative just went unwritten in this matchup.
Walking into the fourth down by eight doesn't write you out, but as the time ticked the group wasn't able to break the deficit. With the Bold holding an average of a 10-point lead in the last 10 minutes, the Marauders felt defeated. The game found its close at 81-68.
Despite the loss, the Marauders shot a healthy 40% from the floor throughout the game, holding their opponents to less than 30% from the three-point range, which was close to 10% lower than in the last match.
As it does, a loss deflates the room, however, it is early in the season and the Marauders look to return to a win streak.
What's Next?
The Marauders are back to action on the road, on Saturday, November 25th against the Brock Badgers.
