The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team took care of business on the road today, dropping the Waterloo Warriors 91-86 on Wednesday evening at the PAC Gym.
Jordan Henry led the Marauders with 21points on the night on 7-of-18 shooting, supported by a well-rounded performance of scoring with four other Marauders entering double digit points.
Mike Demagus put up 13 points to go with eight boards, while
Sefa Otchere stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Defensively, the Marauders stingy aggression was on full display as the team recorded 15 steals in the game, with six players recording two steals apiece. On the ball control end, the Marauders were able to force 18 turnovers, a season-high for the Warriors, while the Marauders held the errors to just five, a seasons-best.
Ending the first quarter, trailing the home side by six points, 21-15, the Marauders put on the gas in the second quarter putting 32 points in the frame. Shooting 68.4% from the floor, McMaster forced their offensive effort on the dribble drive and were rewarded for it, doubling Waterloo's points in the quarter, 32-16, and entering halftime up 47-37.
From there, the Marauders never relinquished their lead., pulling the margin by as much as a 14-point differential in the third quarter following a pair of
Christian Bentley free-throws.
The Warriors mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap to just two points mid-way through the fourth, but the Marauders pulled away on the back of 10 fourth quarter points from Henry, including two free-throws in the dying seconds to ice the game.
With the win, the Marauders hold sole position of second place in the OUA West division with a 9-4 record. Meanwhile, the Warriors fall to 4-7 on the season with their fifth-straight loss. The two teams will meet again on Friday night, as the Marauders return home to Burridge – tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
