The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team advanced to the OUA West finals after a dominant performance over the Lakehead Thunderwolves at home on Saturday night in Burridge Gym, defeating the visiting team 94-82.
For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the Marauders have moved on past the OUA quarterfinal stage, after falling in the same round the past six seasons.
The trio of Mychael Paulo, Sefa Otchere, and Mike Demagus led the way for the Marauders dropping a combined 69 points for the Marauders in the win.
Paula scored a game-high 29 points, on 12-16 shooting, while Otchere went perfect from behind the arc, shooting 4-for-4, dropping 22 points to go with six rebounds. Meanwhile Demagus recorded 18 points on the night, snatching two steals along with four rebounds.
As a team, the Marauders shot 53.7% from the floor and 45.2% from three-point range while holding the Thunderwolves to only 26.1% shooting from deep.
Aside from four lead changes early on in the first quarter, the Marauders were ahead for much of the game. The Maroon's largest lead came midway through the third period after a Christian Bentley layup put the score to 67-40 with 4:54 on the clock.
The team looks to keep their playoff campaign going with a Wednesday night matchup against the No. 4Â Brock Badgers on the road in St. Catharines.
